Nearly Forgotten

Anthony J Dunn

Born 1 March 1943, Bromsgrove to Kathleen Carroll and Arnold Dunn

Died 5 May 1967, Aden, South Africa

Anthony J Dunn was almost forgotten in the family…until we found more information about the children from my great grandmother’s first marriage.

Anthony is my first cousin once removed, the only child of my great grandmother’s eldest daughter, Auntie Kath. So far, we have been unable to find any children from Auntie Kath’s three brothers. Maintaining contact between a first set of children and a second set was and is still problematical. Only one of my mum’s six cousins, Nicky now aged 70, remembers meeting him and that was not often. The rest of the family knew about his death but nothing else.  It seems that he was ‘a bit of a lad’ and was not the ‘right sort of person’ to meet his female cousins!! He joined the Royal Marines and it was while he was stationed in South Africa, he met his death. There is a mystery around his death, the family story only agrees with the official records on place and date! He also had a wife, whom he married three months before his death – more new information. Nicky told us quite a lot about him and gave us photographs – because we asked – nobody else had ever asked him. His story could have been lost forever, until now….and the researching continues!
